COSMOS recently welcomed representatives from U.S. Senator John Boozman’s office for a tour and briefing led by COSMOS Director Prof. Nitin Agarwal. The visit offered a closer look at COSMOS’s pioneering research in social computing, AI, and cognitive warfare.

Brian Rohauer, a seasoned public policy advisor and Director of Projects and Outreach for Senator Boozman, and Joshua Mullinax, who serves as a Field Representative with a focus on community engagement and constituent services, toured the center and engaged in an in-depth discussion about COSMOS’s mission and impact.

The representatives learned how COSMOS supports public and private sector partners by offering real-time insights into cognitive threats. Through collaborations with federal agencies and international research teams, the center is developing tools and security frameworks that help shore up our national defense and protect strategic interests against adversarial cognitive threats.

Beyond the research, the visit emphasized the value of academic centers engaging with public officials. By facilitating these dialogues, researchers can communicate complex findings in accessible ways, promote transparency, and build partnerships that extend the societal impact of the work. For COSMOS, such engagement also strengthens institutional visibility and fosters exciting opportunities for exploring new problem domains and collaboration.

“We are extremely grateful for the support and championship of Senator Boozman that enables us to develop internationally-recognized research solutions in Arkansas to mitigate threats posed by cognitive warfare,” said Prof. Agarwal. “Through these advancements in our tools, we continuously aim to bridge science, society, and policymaking through innovation.”

As digital threats grow more sophisticated, the work conducted by COSMOS becomes increasingly crucial. Visits like this one from Senator Boozman’s staff not only highlight the center’s achievements but also reinforce the role university research plays in shaping safer, more informed digital environments, and strengthening community resilience.
