Editors from Arkansas Business recently visited COSMOS along with UA Little Rock Provost Ann Bain to gain firsthand insight into the center’s work at the intersection of social computing, cognitive security, AI, and digital behavior. COSMOS Director Prof. Nitin Agarwal guided the tour and provided an in-depth overview of the center’s research agenda and impact.
During the visit, Arkansas Business explored how COSMOS equips government entities and industry stakeholders with tools to detect and respond to emerging cognitive threats. The center’s partnerships—with federal agencies, global academic collaborators, and policy organizations—enable the development of strategies that raise awareness, shore up our defenses against cognitive threats, and strengthen community resiliency.
A central theme of the conversation was the importance of academic institutions maintaining open lines of communication with the media. These interactions serve not only to demystify complex research for public audiences but also to build credibility and foster a more informed citizenry.
“Engaging with journalists allows us to transfer our findings into real-world impact,” said Prof. Agarwal. “It’s how we connect innovation with society and ensure our work resonates beyond the academic sphere.”
As online manipulation tactics and information campaigns continue to evolve, COSMOS’s work remains vital. Visits from the media industry like this one help raise awareness about the center’s ongoing research efforts, in-house developed tools, and reinforce the value of research-driven solutions in today’s rapidly evolving digital media landscape.
