Collect Twitter data for educational analysis, including computing natural language processing such as sentiment analysis and topic modeling, but also network analysis, including community discovery and influential individuals.

External Source of Funding

National Science Foundation

How will Twitter data be used?

Twitter data will be used as input for generating user networks through user ID relationships and using tweet text for aggregated semantic and statistical analysis. No individual tweets will be shared or published, except as anonymized samples.

Research Individual or Aggregated?

Aggregated

Methodology for analysis

Analysis methods are varied but include training topic models with large corpora of tweets, building time series of sentiment over time, building tweet-retweet adjacency matrices and exploring resulting graphs, and use network structural measures for community discovery and identifying influential individuals.

In English, describe how you will share the outcomes of your research (include tools, data, and/or resources).
The outcomes of my research will be shared through publications in various scientific forums including conferences and journals.

Will your analysis make Twitter content or derived information available to a government entity?

No

Follow-up Email

You may receive an email asking for personal information, such as program information and individual identification. Simply respond with your program details and personal pages such as your about me on this website, google scholar and/or other identifying academic websites.

Answers here may become individual. For instance, if you receive the question What is your project about? What is your primary research question, hypothesis, or objective? What do you hope to learn? you can mention either individual research projects, or project goals in the social computing class if you do not yet have an assigned research project.
